U.S. Direct Selling Expected to Grow 4 - 7% in 2021 According to New DSA Forecast

October 27, 2021

DSA expects record-high direct retail sales between $41.7 billion and $42.9 billion

(WASHINGTON D.C.) – U.S. Direct Selling Association (DSA), the national trade association for companies that offer entrepreneurial opportunities to individuals who sell products and services direct to customers, released the forecast from its 2021 Growth & Outlook Study predicting growth of 4% to 7% to a range between $41.7 billion and $42.9 billion in U.S. direct selling retail sales. The direct selling forecast is developed based on the analysis of several inputs and is ultimately established by DSA’s Industry Research Committee during a process that is facilitated by Nathan Associates, a third-party international economic consulting firm.

“This growth forecast for direct selling is consistent with DSA research year-to-date (including annual Growth & Outlook, quarterly DataTracker, and monthly QuickPulse surveys), public company reporting, member growth expectations, and broader retail and labor market macroeconomic indicators/forecasts,” said Joseph N. Mariano, president of DSA.

“As Americans’ interest continue to rise in entrepreneurship, flexible work arrangements and supplemental income, direct selling will continue to attract people to the independent direct selling sales force. Furthermore, the channel’s history of innovation and adaptability, as well as the diversity of consumer goods and services offered through both online and person-to-person selling has served the industry well not only last year but in previous years. The industry remains constant in its efforts to provide improved customer centricity and has positioned itself well for more growth in the future with this dedicated focus.”
