(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - On September 20-22, the Direct Selling Association (DSA) hosted its annual Legal & Regulatory Seminar in Washington, D.C.

The seminar is the only annual event for the direct selling community that includes current policymakers and regulators, former senior government officials, and leading legal minds to gain perspectives on current legal, regulatory, and compliance trends as well as charting a path forward to meet current challenges.

General Counsels, senior in-house legal counsel, compliance executives, leading attorneys, and  industry partners came together to discuss ongoing regulations, economic analysis as applied to compensations structures, data privacy, and compliance trends.

The meeting also featured engaging conversations with Nina Frant, Vice President of Consumer Policy at the United States Chamber of Commerce and former advisor to Commissioner Christine Wilson, as well as former Federal Trade Commission General Counsel Alden Abbott. The meeting concluded with remarks by Federal Trade Commission Associate Director, Division of Marketing Practices Lois Greisman.

The Legal & Regulatory Seminar concluded a busy week for the Direct Selling Association in Washington, DC. As part of the week, the Congressional Direct Selling Caucus was re-launched with new Democratic Co-Chair Rep. Darren Soto (D-FL).

Rep. Soto told attendees, “Direct selling fits perfectly into Orlando because it is a very entrepreneurial community. I support direct selling because I want to continue allowing these economic opportunities in Central Florida and across the United States.”

“Our annual Legal & Regulatory Seminar showcases the reason that DSA is located in Washington, D.C.,” said Joseph N. Mariano, DSA President & Chief Executive Officer. Direct selling is engaged in one of the most active regulatory times in our history. This meeting could not have come at a better time to bring together these officials with company General Counsels, compliance professionals, top law firms and industry partners. We look forward to providing continued opportunities as these challenges are navigated over the coming years.”

DSA extends a special thank you to our premier sponsor Winston & Strawn LLP as well as  BakerHostetler, IntegriShield, Jenkon, Kelley Drye, Momentum Factor, Scheef & Stone, and Squire Patton Boggs for their generous sponsorship of this event.
