What is DSAPAC?

The DSA can only be an effective public policy advocate for direct selling if it has a strong and vibrant Political Action Committee (PAC). DSAPAC creates an opportunity for executives at DSA companies to provide indirect financial support to candidates for federal office who understand direct selling and who will promote a legislative and regulatory climate favorable to direct selling.

Why Can’t My Company Make a Direct Corporate Contribution to DSA’s PAC?

Federal law prohibits companies from making direct corporate contributions to PACs.  However, a company’s executive and administrative staff (i.e. (salaried employees with policy-making, managerial, professional, or supervisory responsibility) can make direct contributions to PACs. 

What Are Some Other Rules of Contributing to a PAC?

Contributions are completely voluntary. Contributions to the PAC are not tax deductible for Federal income tax purposes.  Contributions will be used in connection with federal elections and are subject to prohibitions and limitations of federal law.

Who Does DSAPAC Contribute to?

Supporters of direct selling, including members of the Direct Selling Caucus and Members that have supported legislative initiatives for the association. Examples of contributions over 2020-2021 are:

  • Rep. Tony Cardenas (D-CA)—Founding Member of the Direct Selling Caucus
  • Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ)—Member of the Direct Selling Caucus
  • Rep. Richard Hudson (R-NC)—Co-Chair of the Congressional Direct Selling Caucus
  • Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT)—Supporter of position on FTC 13(b) legislation
  • Rep. Debbie Lesko (R-AZ)—Member of the Direct Selling Caucus and co-sponsor
  • Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA)—Member of the Direct Selling Caucus and Ranking Member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee
  • Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ)—One of the few Democratic Senators who supports direct selling
  • Rep. Darren Soto (D-FL)—Member of the Direct Selling Caucus

DSA member companies whose executives give an aggregate of $2,500 will be invited to have a CEO or other top executive as a member of the PAC committee, which includes:

  • Taking a leading role in protecting our companies’ legacies
  • Special recognition at DSA Meetings and in the Direct Selling Journal
  • Exclusive political briefings by Members of Congress on matters that are vital to our industry
  • PAC Newsletter, which details regular activities of DSAPAC so you can be in the know

The DSAPAC is a separate, segregated fund established by the Direct Selling Association to pool funds to be used for political purposes. Contributions are voluntary and you have a right to refuse to contribute without reprisal. The amount given by the contributor, or the refusal to give, will not benefit or disadvantage the person being solicited. The suggested amount is only a suggestion; more or less than the suggested amount may be given. Contributions to DSAPAC cannot be deducted as a charitable contribution for federal tax purposes. Federal law requires DSAPAC to use its best efforts to collect and report the name, mailing address, occupation and the employer's name of individuals whose contributions exceed $200 per calendar year.
