Education is powerful, but a self-regulatory framework helps provide oversight in a modern direct selling marketplace.

The Direct Selling Self-Regulatory Council (DSSRC) is the independent body that oversees integrity and compliance across the U.S. direct selling industry. Created in 2019 by the Direct Selling Association (DSA) and administered by BBB National Programs, the DSSRC was designed to address rising scrutiny, new marketing environments, and the need for stronger third-party accountability.

Its mission is straightforward: monitor the marketplace, investigate questionable claims, and strengthen consumer trust by promoting responsible practices industry-wide.

BBB National Programs is a non-profit organization that runs many of the country’s leading self-regulatory systems, including the National Advertising Division, the Children’s Advertising Review Unit, and the Digital Advertising Alliance. Their experience managing independent oversight programs made them the right partner to administer the DSSRC and ensure it operated with neutrality and credibility.


DSA Members, Pending Applicants and Suppliers

Direct Selling Company Members

DSA Members are direct selling companies that have completed the application process and recommit annually to our Code of Ethics. Members receive full access to our slate of benefits and are given unique opportunities to be leaders in the industry. Yearly, 20% of the membership is subject to our Random Review process to verify their continued compliance with the Code of Ethics.

Pending Applicants

Pending Applicants are companies that have submitted an application for DSA membership. As part of a Pending Applicant company, executives will receive all the benefits of DSA membership but have not been granted official membership in the Association. Once a company successfully completes the membership process, DSA membership status is granted.

Subscribers are people looking to start a business or exploring the direct selling channel with the intent of starting operations. DSA Subscribers receive access to DSA digital resources, research, communications and events.
