On October 13-15, the Direct Selling Association hosted its annual Legal & Regulatory Seminar in-person and virtually. The seminar provided the only annual event for direct selling company legal, regulatory and government affairs professionals to hear directly from current and former federal and state regulators. This event is important for engagement with officials who regulate the direct selling business.

The seminar included marquee presentations from United States Senator Mike Lee (R-UT), the Nevada Attorney General's office and former senior officials from the Federal Trade Commission, Acting Chair and Commissioner Maureen Ohlhausen and Director, Bureau of Consumer Protection Andrew Smith. Participants also heard from a CEO, General Counsels, compliance executives, and leading industry attorneys on issues impacting our businesses. The presentations focused on how companies and the industry will adapt and respond to ensure protection of our business and consumers.

DSA President Joseph N Mariano noted, "It was great to gather safely in-person for the first time in almost two years while online attendees still gained the same great content. This is an inflection point for direct selling as there are a variety of legal and regulatory developments that could have a great impact on our business. It was important to hear from leaders within the industry as well as current and former regulators on their expectations for our businesses in the American economy. DSA will continue to constructively engage with regulators and policymakers as these proposals develop over the course of the coming months and years."
